Constructional & Electrical Performance Data
ESI 09-6 Issue 6 Section 3 – Induced Voltage Control Cable

Dirigenten
0.80mm Plain annealed copper wire in accordance with BS6360 Class 1.
Isolatie
The conductors are insulated with Polyvinyl Chloride Type 02 to BS7655, uniformly twisted together to form a pair with a
maximum lay length of 125mm, and colour coded for identification (See Table 1). Suitable for voltages upto and including
150 Volts (d.c.) and 110 Volts (a.c.)
Kabel Formation
2 pair cables are laid up in quad formation.
5 – 10 pair cables are laid up in layer formation.
20 – 200 pairs cables are laid up in 20 pair units to form the required cable size. A printed number on a longitudinal tape
applied under the binder tape identifies each unit.
Screens
For 2 pair cables the screen comprises of an aluminium foil in contact with a 0.80mm tinned copper drain wire. For 5 pairs and
above the screen comprises of an aluminium tape with a backing that ensures adhesion to the bedding. The tape screen is
applied over a ripcord and in contact with a 0.80mm tinned copper drain wire.

Note: Armoured cables (Generation) always require a collective screen. Types 1 & 2 can incorporate a
screen if required.
Outer Covering

Type 1

Unarmoured Multipair Light Current Control cables.
Extruded Polyvinyl Chloride sheath to BS7655.

Type 2

Armoured Multipair Light Current Control cables.
Extruded Polyvinyl Chloride bedding to BS7655, Galvanised steel wire armour to BS1442 and an extruded
Polyvinyl Chloride sheath to BS7655.

Type 3

Armoured Multipair (Generation) Light Current Control cables.
Extruded Polyvinyl Chloride bedding to BS7655, Galvanised steel wire armour to BS1442 (2 – 10 pair)
Galvanised steel tape armour (20 – 200 pair) and an extruded Polyvinyl Chloride sheath to BS7655.

Alternative PVC materials producing lower levels of HCL are available on request.
